The Office of First-Year Experience

The Office of First-Year Experience (FYE) assists students as they transition into Georgia Southwestern State University. FYE is committed to providing a comprehensive and collaborative approach to ensure the success and retention of first-year students. The FYE program coordinates with faculty, staff, and students to create engaging curricular and co-curricular opportunities to build a strong foundation that supports the successful academic and social transition of new students. FYE offers academic support and resources to all undergraduate students.

First-Year Experience Goals

FYE aims to support the successful academic and social transition of new students by providing an introduction to the GSW experience by:

  • Providing first-year students with an introduction to college life to help them build a firm foundation for a strong future of learning
  • Supporting the successful academic and social transition of new students
  • Connecting students to the University with a sense of belonging
  • Promoting self-discovery through major selection and career exploration
  • Creating engaging curricular and co-curricular opportunities for first-year students

FYE Storm Spotters

Storm Spotters are student leaders who assist with new student orientation, programming for first-year students, and co-instruct the University 1000: The GSW Experience course for incoming first-year students. The Storm Spotters play a vital role in the life of our incoming first-year students helping to promote a smooth transition into college life and the university.
