Home / Admissions / Freshman Admission Criteria

Students who are completing their high school education or have recently received their diploma and have not taken college or university courses after high school are considered freshmen for admission purposes at Georgia Southwestern. Make sure to Check Your Status online as you work through the application process.

To Apply:
  • Submit your application with the $25 non-refundable application fee.
If you are using an acceptable fee waiver, please submit the completed paper application by mail with the waiver. We accept official application fee waivers from College Board, ACT, and NACAC.
  • Request your official transcipts from your counseling office to be sent Georgia Southwestern.
We accept mailed or e-transcripts, such as Parchment, eScrip-Safe, or GA Futures that come directly from the high school. You may bring them to campus in person, as long as they remain in the original, sealed envelope from the school. When processing your transcript, we will calculate your GPA based on the 17 Required High School Curriculum courses. Your GPA may be different than what will be listed on the transcripts.
  • Send official copies of your SAT or ACT scores directly from the testing agency. (SAT Code: 5250 / ACT code: 0824)
Application decisions are made based on the highest scores received. We encourage you to send all scores from all tests taken. We reassess applications every time updated information is received. Southwestern uses the highest Evidence Based Reading and Writing scores and Math scores to calculate a combined Total SAT score. We use the highest English, Reading, Math, and Composite scores from all attempts on the ACT exam. We do not recalculate a new ACT composite score. Writing scores are not required for the ACT or SAT. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, freshman applicants for 2021 will not need SAT or ACT scores. We encourage students who did take the SAT or ACT to please submit official scores. Submitting scores may satisfy required placement exam(s) and co-requisite course(s).
  • Check your status online.
