Chemistry, Geology, & Physics

The Department of Chemistry, Geology, and Physics offers students a thorough background in the composition, processes, and physical laws that define the Universe. Students will learn the foundation understanding in the areas of chemistry, earth, and physical sciences and the resources necessary for success upon graduation, independent of the chosen career path.

Students will experience integrated coursework training with up-to-date analytical techniques, field experiences and research projects throughout our programs to provide our majors with the experiential background needed for successful graduate education and careers in the natural and physical sciences.

The Department of Chemistry, Geology, and Physics at Georgia Southwestern State University is dedicated to providing the finest possible educational experiences for students of Georgia Southwestern in the areas of Earth and Physical Sciences. Towards that end, the faculty in this Department will:

  • Serve the overall Mission of the University by providing quality instruction for all students in the areas of Chemistry, Geology, Physics, and Astronomy.
  • Provide required introductory, upper-level and graduate classes for students pursuing teacher certification through the GSW College of Education.
  • Instill in all students a fascination with and dedication to lifelong learning about the world around them byproviding a thorough background in the composition, processes, and physical laws that define the Universe.
  • Integrate coursework training with up-to-date analytical techniques, field experiences and research projects throughout our programs to provide our majors with the experiential background needed for successful graduate education and careers in the natural and physical sciences.
  • Provide additional service to the University, community, local schools and the public through various outreach programs.
