Nursing Students

The School of Nursing now offers two admissions cycles for students: Fall Admission - February 15th and Spring Admission - October 15th

Accreditation

The master's degree program in nursing at Georgia Intercollegiate Consortium for Graduate Nursing Education (Consortium of Georgia Southwestern State University and Columbus State University) is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) has approved the dissolution of the Georgia Intercollegiate Graduate Nursing Education (GICGNE) and for both universities in this consortium to have their own Master of Science in nursing programs. For those students enrolled in GICGNE, there will be no change- students will remain enrolled under GICGNE until graduation.

Georgia Southwestern State University School of Nursing will begin enrolling new students in the GSW-only M.S.N. program in Spring/Summer/Fall 2020. This will include students in all tracks of Family Nurse Practitioner, Informatics, Education, and Leadership. Because the master's degree is only accredited under GICGNE,  GSW will be seeking separate accreditation.

Therefore, the master's degree program in nursing at Georgia Southwestern State University is pursuing initial accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing EducationApplying for accreditation does not guarantee that accreditation will be granted.

Eligibility Requirements

  2. Return the completed application and required supporting documents to the College of Nursing and Health Sciences by the published deadlines.
  3. Complete all general education/ core curriculum courses prior to entering the nursing program.
  4. Must lack no more than one  three hour elective course in Area F.

  6. Area F courses (excluding the elective) must be completed within 5 years of projected admission.
  7. Earned a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.80/4.0. Admission is competitive. A GPA of 2.80 does not guarantee admission. Calculation of GPA is based on grades in Area A, Area C English Literature course,  Area D, and Area F (excluding the Area F elective). If any of the applicable courses have been repeated, all attempts within 5 years are included in this calculation.
  8. Must have completed 3 science courses toward the degree major, Area A, and English literature course before applying.
  9. Students applying to GSW beginning FALL 2017 are required to have an iPad or laptop for in-class use.

  • Grade Point Average - greater than the minimum of 2.80 [using Area A, Area C English Literature course, Area D, and Area F (excluding elective in Area F) to determine GPA]
  • Grades in Science courses - minimum of B is preferred

  • Patterns of withdrawal from courses/schools
  • Grades of Ds and/or Fs
  • Written communication ability
  • Availability of space in clinical sites
