The study of chemistry forms the basis for a career in industry, government, the health professions, education, or any combination of these. It is a challenging but rewarding discipline that prepares the student to continue in a life-long learning experience while working in positions that are interesting and productive.
The chemistry major at Georgia Southwestern State University is flexible. Through the choice of a minor and elective courses, the student may prepare for almost any professional goal and find that the logical and analytical skills developed will be strong assets in any chosen career.

The two year course schedule shows a list of planned courses for students.
Students completing a degree in Chemistry are expected to leave with foundational knowledge in special computer programs and on-line research strategies in the preparation of laboratory reports. An upper-division course project with minimal direction will be expected. Students will have the skills to perform both written and oral presentations and take discipline specific American Chemical Society examinations.
